The Inspiration of Skydiving (Article & Video)
One of my resolutions for 2015 was to skydive, an item on my bucket list for over 30 years. Can you imagine taking this leap after qualifying for your AARP card? Although I am not afraid of heights, I was not sure how jumping out of a
perfectly good airplane was going to feel, but it would be this year that I was
determined to find out.
I felt only peace and serenity from the moment I entered
Skydive Lake Tahoe; the staff warm, welcoming and knowledgeable.
Smiles abound from personnel and client alike as new jumpers along with their
seasoned instructors reentered the building, their experience together now
complete.
The lesson was succinct for my
tandem jump with my instructor, Igor and I was fitted with jumpsuit and harness before we went over the game plan for my experience.
I just listened and smiled, knowing that there was nothing
to be afraid of. Any nervousness was in my own mind and I was not going to take
away from my higher love vibration by allowing it to creep in.
Igor turned on his wrist cam and started filming. I was so very fortunate to have another instructor, Taylor along for the ride, his smile as wide as his heart, a true reminder of my Sedona, AZ spiritual family. We three boarded
the small plane and were on our way. Living in Lake Tahoe the views are
spectacular, both in winter and summer. Nothing could describe the beauty as we
rose about the mountaintops and I gained a view of the lake and surrounding
areas in its entirety; the aqua, lapis and sapphire shades of blue of the water
complimenting the harlequin green of the meadows against the dark pines.
As we neared the jump altitude, Igor ensured that my harness
was tightly secured to his as we made our way to the exit point over 12,000
feet above the land. I was excited thinking that in a few seconds I would
be literally flying.
I swung my feet over the side, now part of the wind and then it happened….... I was free falling. There were no screams, just bliss and smiles. For me it was a feeling of being home, one with the Sky. Words hardly describe the feeling; I was flying, weightless among the clouds,
like the many dreams I had in my youth. The difference was that this was real.
Free falling was almost like standing still, I hardly felt as if we were
falling at all, yet I was told we were at a velocity of about 120 miles per
hour. Taylor and I joined hands on the way down as we shared that same love of adventure.
In a few moments I felt a small jolt as the chute opened and
the world slowed down to a semi-crawl. All I had to do was take it all in as my
technical expert guided us to a safe landing.
I am forever grateful for this wonderful
opportunity and truly blessed and send out thanks to 2 incredible men whose
main goal was my safety for this my first experience.
If you take anything away from this article let it be this: Don't live your life for tomorrow, start realizing your dreams today and don’t allow fear to keep you from moving forward. Take that leap of faith knowing that something wonderful
is right in front of you waiting and know that it’s never too late to stretch your
wings and fly!
